"Case of Dillas"

We are working really hard to update, rotate and circulate our food storage. We have food in the freezer that I don't even remember buying. So in an effort to Spring Clean we are in full empty the freezer mode. We warned the kids that they may not always like what we are eating for dinner, but we wouldn't feed them anything that we wouldn't eat ourselves. So last night was the first night of the freezer cleanse.

It was FHE, the kids had crazy homework and I had a new client meeting that I had to go to. So I did what I always, well sometimes, well most of the time do....pulled something out of the freezer, and not from the front of the freezer, but the WAY back. We feasted on shrimp stir fry with rice and chicken fajitas. Quick and easy. (Not two main courses that I would put together usually, but hey it was enough for our family of six. ) We had fruit and milk to round out our nutritious meal.

Two of our boys took one look and walked away. Nice. They missed out. It was really good. Why didn't I make this before? (Because corn dogs and mac and cheese always seem to win out in our home.) Then as we were calling the two boys to the table over and over without any response ,the older of the two noticed that shrimp was involved in this experiment. He sat right down and chowed down. The other one...no such luck. He didn't eat dinner at all last night. He didn't even care. He is going to get really hungry this next month or two.

So wish me luck...I know I can do it. I (we) may not always be happy with the outcome, but if I liked it enough to buy it a year ago...have my tastes really changed that much? The little one who wouldn't eat begged for a "case of dilla". Quesadilla (translated). I didn't budge. Do you feel that your kids HAVE to eat dinner? I don't let our children go without dinner ever as a punishment. But this wasn't a punishment. The good food was fixed, he just refused it. Did I do the right thing? Boy, he sure ate a great breakfast this morning. Turkey...I'll bet I can find some in the freezer for tonight's dinner.

Pink Flamigos In The Front Yard...

Remember that song?
Today A and I went to a Mother/Daughter Activity at the Stake Center. It was a really cute theme. Everything PINK. We were supposed to wear pink, we ate pink stuff, made a pink craft and sat at tables decorated entirely in PINK. There were six different mini classes to go to. The idea behind the pink flamigos was that we/they are not all alike. Depending on what we/they eat/brine shrimp/determines whether we/they are really pink/healthy or not pink/not healthy at all. They tied it in to what we put in our bodies and what we do to our bodies healthy or not. They did a good job. I just never thought I'd learn two line dances at a Primary activity. Hilarious. There were a bunch of fun Mom's in our group and we had a blast. The girls thought we were weird. But they ARE getting to the age where no matter what we do we are weird. Hey, I'm cool...aren't I? At least I used to be back in the day.
Speaking of pink flamingos...Ricardo's work is going through some major construction right now. They are adding an entire wing on and there is always something exciting going on. Cranes, bulldozers, jackhammers. You name it. The boys love going up there to see what is happening. The construction company has set up a trailer in the parking lot...let's call it a modular home...as their base of operations. The guys that Ricardo works with thought it would be really funny to play hillbilly music out into the parking lot where their deluxe accommodations are. They set up pink flamingos, a toilet with a plant planted in it and a sign saying...Y'all Come Back Now Ya Hear? The higher ups got upset that the music was being played so loudly so they had to stop that, but they've kept the rest of the stuff out for everyone's enjoyment. Pretty dang hilarious.
Here are the lyrics to that song...
I was a rebel in my younger years
I'd...drink with the devil if he bought me a beer
Wore out two pickups just running around
Mama thought I never would settle down
That was before I met sweet Irma Jean
She made a new man outta me
We got pink flamingos in the front yard
Picture window with a view of Wal-Mart
Blue collar heaven domestic bliss
It just doesn't get any better than this
We got pink flamingos, pink flamingos, pink flamingos
Sweet Irma Jean is a den mother now
With a station wagon and a charge account
Bubba Junior pitches for his baseball team
Little sister's running for Rose Bud Queen
And me I'm doing good at the used car lot
Is this a great country or what
We got pink flamingos in the front yard
Picture window with a view of Wal-Mart
Blue collar heaven domestic bliss
It just doesn't get any better than this
We got pink flamingos, pink flamingos, pink flamingos
People slow down when they drive by
They wave and smile but there's envy in their eyes
We ain't rich and won't be for a while
But no doubt about it baby we got style
With got pink flamingos in the front yard
Picture window with a view of Wal-Mart
Blue collar heaven domestic bliss
It just doesn't get any better than this
With got pink flamingos in the front yard
Picture window with a view of Wal-Mart
Blue collar heaven domestic bliss
It just doesn't get any better than this
We got pink flamingos
Picture windows
Pink flamingos

Can't Live...Ken Lee

This just cracks me up. How many of us have done this when singing our favorite song? Just not to this extent.

A Present For The Future

I found these and had to have them for a gift.
I have to buy vicariously for little girls now, since my little girl is almost 12.

There's A Change A Comin'

I found this online and watched all the webisodes. It's called In The MotherHood. Hilarious. Funny stories about Mom's written by Mom's. Check it out. www.inthemotherhood.msn.com

I am 38 now...and I am having a lot of mood swings...could this be the beginning of the end? I thought this story "Menopause Jewelry" was funny. Laugh or I'll have to hurt you.

My husband, being unhappy with my mood swings,
bought me a mood ring the other day so he would be
able to monitor my moods.

We've discovered that when I'm in a good mood, it
turns green. When I'm in a bad mood, it leaves a
big frickin red mark on his forehead.

Maybe next time he'll buy me a diamond.

He's Gotta Win!

He reminds me so much of my brother Brian. Don't ya think? I hope he wins AI. Utah residents seem to do really well on reality tv. I wonder why?

I'm Afraid He'll Never Be Found...

I got this in an email this morning....

MISSING HUSBAND

Rick was in trouble. He forgot his Valentines Day gift. His wife was really angry. She told him 'Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in less than 6 seconds, AND IT BETTER BE THERE!!'

The next morning Rick got up early and left for work. When his wife woke up she looked out the window and sure enough there was a box gift-wrapped in the middle of the driveway. Confused, the wife put on her robe and ran out to the driveway, and brought the box back in the house. She opened it and found a brand new bathroom scale.

Rick has been missing since Friday.

Please pray for him.

What Do You Crave?

She's here...Little Lauren Ashley

We can't wait to see her...

This is a picture that best describes a dream my Mom had when she was pregnant with my little brother(the father of this new little niece). It was after a night of some serious Mexican food...
(This picture in no way resembles any members of my immediate family)
I wonder what my sister in law has been craving?
I guess we'll see.

The Same...But Different

This is what I'm trying to match...These are Grandma's goblets...There are only three left in my collection. They are a collectors item wouldn't you know it. Expensive. I'll have to buy them one by one to get a set of twelve. It would probably take me twelve years to find that many.

This is what I've settled for after trying to find cobalt blue goblets.
I think they'll do the job quite nicely.
I've been looking high and low for goblets that match my china. These are to replace the ones that have been broken by those who shall remain nameless. I will now have a set of twelve perfect glasses. They aren't vintage....but they were a great deal and they are the closest match I've found. They are only $4 each compared to $16 a piece that I found elsewhere and they weren't this nice, in fact they were very ugly, and not as deep of a blue. Happy Birthday To Me!
